After Paris, Marseille is the second most touristic and highly populated city in France. Marseille is the oldest city in France, founded by the Phoceans 600 years BC (then known as Phocée) then developed by the Romans (Massilia) as a trading post. It is located on the southern part of France known as the Cote D’Azur, Provence, or French Riviera. If you want a slice of ‘real-life’ in a down to earth yet cosmopolitan city, it is worth taking a trip to Marseille. Exotic, exuberant, harsh, deprived, Marseille is a city of contrasts, a new found pride and a welcome relief of the French history. It offers excellent museums, a wide range of shops, nice beaches, lovely calanques, as well as fabulous restaurants and bars. Its cultural diversity and quality has been recently awarded by the following prize: European Capital of Culture. The conference will take place at the WTC Marseille Provence located just near the Old Port with its narrow entrance guarded by two forts dating back to Medieval times. The Old Port is the focal point for much of Marseille’s lively and contagious ambience. You will like it!
